The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday said that it would contest the upcoming Assembly elections in Gujarat, PTI reported. Delhi Cabinet minister Gopal Rai, who is AAP’s in-charge for the Gujarat election, said the decision to contest the elections in select seats had been taken at a meeting of the party’s central and state office-bearers.
“AAP has decided, after a long discussion, that it will contest the Gujarat Assembly polls,” Rai said. “We have framed three criteria and will contest on seats which meet our criteria.”
The factors include contesting for seats where the party finds “competent” candidates, with no criminal or corruption charges, and those who have an “upright character”.
The candidates will have to raise money to fund their own campaign, Rai said. “Funds raised for a particular seat will be spent on campaigning in that constituency only,” he said, citing Election Commission norms
