Months after completing the shoot of his Indian debut Beyond The Clouds, Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi has announced that his next film will also be set in India. According to a report in Firstpost, the project titled Gold Mine is expected to go on floors in 2018.
“The ambience of India is magical and incomparable...there exists a wonderful relationship between humans and nature,” Majidi said. “The undying spirit of people and their hope for life, in spite of all hardships, is unbelievable.”
“Gold Mine is based on a subject that came to Majidi during his frequent visits to north India,” a person familiar with the project told Firstpost. “He has been developing the idea and recently visited the location where his story is based, for further planning and recce.”
Shareen Mantri Kedia and Kishor Arora, co-producers of Beyond The Clouds, will return to support him for Gold Mine.
Meanwhile, Beyond The Clouds starring Ishaan Khatter and Malavika Mohanan will have its world premiere at the forthcoming 61st BFI London Film Festival in October.
Majidi’s filmography includes Children of Heaven (1997), The Color of Paradise (1999), Baran (2001), The Song of Sparrows (2008), and Muhammad: The Messenger of God (2015).
