A suicide bomber blew himself up at a bank close to the US embassy compound in Kabul on Tuesday, killing at least five people and injuring eight others, Reuters reported quoting Afghanistan Interior Ministry spokesperson Najib Danish.
The incident took place around 10 am outside a branch of the Kabul Bank. Buildings in the vicinity also suffered damages, Tolo News reported. Some vehicles in the vicinity were also damaged.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack near the city’s main diplomatic quarter. A spokesman for the organisation, Zabihullah Mujahid, said the bomber targeted a section of the bank where soldiers and police were going to withdraw salaries. Mujahid also said several soldiers were killed, but there was no confirmation from the government.
