At least 35 people were killed in a suicide bombing on Monday in Afghan Capital Kabul, Reuters reported. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the explosion. The toll is expected to rise further.
Interior Ministry Spokesperson Najib Danish said the car bomb had hit a bus carrying employees of the Ministry of Mines, AFP reported. All casualties in the incident were civilians.
The explosion took place near parliamentarian and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan Mohammad Mohaqiq’s house, Reuters reported. The locality has a high Shi’ite Hazara population.
The Hazara community were to hold a demonstration on Monday to commemorate the one-year mark of an attack in Kabul last year, in which 84 people had died and more than 300 were wounded. The Islamic State group had carried out this carnage.
At least 1,662 civilians have been killed in suicide bombings in Afghanistan in the first half of 2017, according to Reuters.
