The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday said it would not let software giant Tata Consultancy Services shut down its unit in Lucknow, reported PTI. “We will not let it leave the state capital. We will look into it,” said state Finance Minister Rajesh Agarwal.
TCS employees have approached Chief Minister Adityanath for help. State ministers Swami Prasad Maurya and Mohsin Raza had told the employees that their interests would be protected.
This comes days after TCS said it was likely to shift most of its projects in Lucknow to Noida, Indore or other facilities in the country. “We are consolidating our Uttar Pradesh operations,” a TCS spokesperson had said.
The company’s move to shift operations from Lucknow did not go down well with around 2,000 of its employees, The Times of India reported. The employees cited family reasons for not wanting to be transferred. Besides expressing their reservations on social media, they had staged a protest at the TCS office in Lucknow’s Gomtinagar on Friday with placards carrying messages like ‘Save TCS Lucknow.’
The company denied media reports that it planned to fire the employees. “There have neither been any job losses nor have we asked anyone to quit,” the spokesperson had said.
