The prize money in the lucrative Pro Kabaddi League is higher than ever before as the winners of season five will pocket a whopping Rs 8 crore, a bumper increase from the Rs 2 crore reward offered during season four, reported Business Standard.
The windfall has put kabaddi third in order of prize money among the cash-rich leagues. The Indian Premier League cricket tournament still comfortably sits on top among the big earnes with Rs 46 crore offered to the winners of the 2017 season. The franchise-based football equivalent, the Indian Super League, awards Rs 15 crore to its winners.
There has been a substantial hike for the runners-up fee too. This season, which gets underway from July 28 in Hyderabad, will see the beaten finalists earn Rs 1.8 crore. The most valuable player will receive a prize money of Rs 15 Lakh. The league has expanded for the forthcoming season with 12 teams competing tournament for the first time. A whopping 138 games will be played over the course of three months.
