Delhi Police detained around 70 farmers near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence in the capital on Sunday, PTI reported. The farmers were taken to Parliament Street police station.
“Our demands were not met as promised by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami and Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan,” farmers’ leader P Ayyakannu said. “So we have decided to resume our protest for another 100 days.”
The protestors have been demanding a drought relief package of ₹40,000 crore, a farm loan waiver and a central government-run Cauvery Management Board.
The farmers said they will participate in an indefinite protest along with agitators from across the country in Jantar Mantar on July 18.
