The Guwahati High Court on Friday stayed Nagaland Governor PB Acharya’s order to Chief Minister Shurhozelie Liezietsu to prove his majority in the Assembly by July 15. The Kohima bench has stayed the direction till Monday, The Indian Express reported.
The governor had asked Liezietsu to hold a floor test after former Chief Minister TR Zeliang had claimed that he had the support of 44 of the 59 MLAs in the Assembly.
Issung a four-page interim order, Justice LS Jamir said the matter will be heard again on Monday, giving the chief minister the weekend to strategise. Liezietsu had rejected Acharya’s order on Wednesday, saying that the governor did not have a say in the internal affairs of the Naga People’s Front party.
