Damneet Singh Mann grabbed a silver in boys’ hammer throw event to give India their first medal on the third day of the IAAF World U-18 Athletics Championships on Friday, PTI reported.
The Indian sent the 5kg chain and iron ball to a best distance of 74.20m, which he brought up in his first attempt. This was his personal best effort.
Mykhaylo Kokhan of Ukraine won the gold with a best throw of 82.31m while Raphael Winkelvoss of Germany took the bronze by clearing a distance of 71.78m.
The other Indian in the fray, Nitesh Poonia finished 10th with a best throw of 65.79m.
India are being represented by 19 athletes in the five-day championships.
