Former Sri Lanka cricket team captain Arjuna Ranatunga on Friday alleged that the 2011 ICC World Cup final between India and Sri Lanka was fixed, and demanded an investigation, AFP reported. India had defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

Ranatunga, in a video posted on his Facebook page, said he was shocked by Sri Lanka’s defeat. “I was also in India, giving commentaries at the time,” the former World Cup-winning captain said. “When we lost, I was distressed and I had a doubt. We must investigate what happened to Sri Lanka at the 2011 World Cup final.”

Ranatunga said the players “could not hide the dirt with their clean white cricket clothing”. “I cannot reveal everything now, but one day I will. There must be an inquiry,” he added.

Chasing a target of 275, India had got off to a poor start after losing both their openers, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. Later, Gautam Gambhir, who scored 97, shared a fourth-wicket 109-run partnership with MS Dhoni. India went on to achieve the target with six wickets in hand.
