The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday set up a Special Investigation Team to look into the attack on Amarnath Yatra pilgrims in Anantnag district on Monday night.
The SIT will be headed by Deputy Inspector General (South Kashmir) SP Pani and include Senior Superintendent of Police (Anantnag) Altaf Ahmad Khan.
On Wednesday, searches were launched in Jammu and Kashmir, focusing on South Kashmir, where Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Abu Ismail is believed to have moved his base a year ago. The police believe Ismail had planned the strike on the pilgrims.
Seven Amarnath Yatra pilgrims were killed and 18 others were injured after militants had attacked their bus in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday. The militants had fired at their bus, which had been on the journey from Gujarat.
