Telanagana MLA B Shankar Naik was arrested in Hyderabad on Thursday for allegedly misbehaving with a female IAS officer in Mahbubabad on Wednesday. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi legislator had allegedly held the Mahbubabad district collector’s arm and shoved her forward during a plantation programme, the Hindustan Times reported
A police officer told PTI: “The collector, in her complaint, stated that she felt hurt over the MLA’s indecent behaviour after he allegedly touched her hand.”
The woman lodged a complaint with Chief Secretary SP Singh, who then raised the matter with Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Rao had directed Naik to tender an unconditional apology to the woman.
The Mahbubabad Police booked Naik for using criminal force on a public servant, assaulting a woman with the “intent to outrage her modesty” and using abusive language. He was granted bail on a personal bond.
