Nagaland Chief Minister Shuroziele Leizeitsu has turned down Governor PB Acharya’s direction to prove his majority in the Assembly by July 15, The Times of India reported on Wednesday. Leizeitsu said the governor did not have a say in the internal affairs of the Naga People’s Front party.
“Yes, I have replied to the governor that the present crisis is an internal matter of the party, and this has to be resolved within the party and not on the floor of the House,” Leitzeitsu told the English daily.
The governor’s order had followed former Chief Minister TR Zeliang’s claim that he had the support of 44 of the 59 MLAs in the Naga Assembly.
“The governor can summon the chief minister to prove his majority on the floor of the House only when there is a no-confidence motion by the Opposition. In Nagaland, there is no opposition,” he wrote in his letter to Acharya submitted through Speaker Imtiwapang.
