Renowned cartoonist Mangesh Tendulkar died at the age of 83 in Pune on Monday. He had been suffering from bladder cancer for the past three years. Tendulkar was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic on Sunday. A hospital official told the Hindustan Times that he had undergone a surgery.
The artist was known for using satire to draw attention to social issues. He was given the president’s medal in 1980, the Marathi Natya Parishad Award in 1993 and the Pulotsav Award in 2003, among a number of other honours.
He was the younger brother of late playwright and Padma Bhushan Vijay Tendulkar.
