Union Minister of State for Tourism and Culture, Mahesh Sharma, on Monday said that the Ram Temple is definitely going to be constructed, PTI reported. Sharma made the statement at an event in Kolkata.
“The stand is very clear. Millions of people of this country want their Ram Mandir to be constructed,” he said. “But it will be done either by the act of court of law or by consensus.”
His remark came days after the Vishwa Hindu Parishad brought truckloads of stones into Ayodhya to “rebuild” the disputed temple. In December 1992, thousands of karsevaks had demolished the Babri Masjid at that spot, triggering communal riots across the country. They had claimed that the land on which the mosque stood was the birthplace of Hindu god Ram.
Mahesh Sharma also condemned the recent communal violence in Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district and Basirhat. “The state should have taken stern action,” he said, adding that the violence in Basirhat should not have happened. There was violence after a 17-year-old shared an allegedly inflammatory post on Facebook about Prophet Mohammad.
