At least seven people drowned and one other was feared dead after a boat capsized in Nagpur’s Vena Lake late on Sunday night, ANI reported on Monday. The search and rescue team managed to recover seven bodies from the lake. The operations will resume on Tuesday morning.
The incident took place at Vena Dam, around 25 km from Nagpur, around 6.30 pm on Sunday. Eleven people had gone to the lake to celebrate a birthday, reported NDTV. They had streamed a video on Facebook Live and were believed to have been taking selfies when the boat tipped over. Three people managed to swim to the shore.
“Two teams are here for rescue operations,” Additional Superintendent of Police (Nagpur) Suresh Bhoyat said. “A few boys had come for a picnic. They took a fishing boat, which capsized. We will take help from the National Disaster Response Force.”
