Two militants were killed on Monday in an alleged infiltration bid that was foiled by the Indian security forces along the Line of Control in Nowgam sector of Handwara in north Kashmir, ANI reported.
Pakistan had resorted to “unprovoked and indiscriminate firing” along the LoC on Sunday at 11.30 pm. Search operations are underway in the area as more militants are believed to be hiding in the forested region, India Today reported.
Jammu & Kashmir police claim to have busted LeT module
The Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday claimed to have busted a module of the Lashkar-e-Taiba militant organisation in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar. The police have arrested one Sandeep Sharma, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, who is believed to have been a close aide of LeT commander Bashir Lashkari, who was killed on July 1.
Munir Khan, the inspector general of police, Kashmir, said Sharma was found hiding in a house where Lashkar militants, including Lashkari, had taken shelter. “The militants of Lashkar took help of Sandeep to loot ATMs, and they also indulged in immoral activities in the villages,” Khan said, while addressing a press conference on Monday.
Khan said Sharma lived under the alias of Adil. “He was involved in militant attack on policemen in Achabal that left six cops, including an SHO dead,” Khan said.
‘Four Indians killed, two Army posts destroyed along LoC’
The Pakistani Army on Sunday claimed that it had destroyed two Indian Army posts along the Line of Control in which four Indian soldiers were killed, Dawn reported. “Pakistan Army befittingly responded on July 9, causing substantial losses to men and material,” Dawn quoted Pakistan Army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations, as saying. “Two Indian Army posts firing on innocent civilians have been destroyed, four Indian soldiers killed.”
The claim came a day after Hizbul Mujahideen chief Burhan Wani’s first death anniversary was observed in Jammu and Kashmir. Official spokesperson of Pakistani Armed Forces, Major General Asif Ghafoor also confirmed it on Twitter. “In utter failure to cap remembrance of [Burhan] Wani’s shahadat, Indian forces targeted innocent civilians along the LoC. Indian guns silenced effectively!” he said.
