The Delhi Police has tightened security at Hauz Khas Village after receiving “intelligence inputs about foreign visitors being the target of terror outfits”, The Indian Express reported on Sunday.
Earlier, it had been reported that the police was planning to ban ladies night at establishments in the locality – held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays – claiming that it hampered the law and order situation in the area. However, the police denied banning ladies night at popular joints, reported Hindustan Times.
“We have stepped up measures due to recent terror attacks in European countries,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ishwar Singh.
Officials said all restaurants and cafes have been asked to keep tight vigil on the monitoring room of CCTV cameras, reported India Today. They have also been instructed to inform the police about any suspicious person or item.
The police are also planning to install metal detectors at entry and exit points of Hauz Khas Village and also in parking areas, the official added.
The move, however, has not pleased most restaurateurs in the area.
“Police have been shutting down venues by 11 pm every night, which has destroyed businesses in the area...Protection does not mean asking people to stay home,” said Riyaaz Amlani, president of thr National Restaurant Association of India.
