The government and the Bharatiya Janata Party have no role in the Central Bureau of Investigation raids against Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu claimed on Friday, reported PTI. The information and broadcasting minister said the CBI was doing its duty by acting according to the mandate given to it by the law.
“Where is the political vendetta?,” asked Naidu. “Where is BJP in this? I am not able to understand. Do you mean to say that anybody against whom there is any charge, should not be inquired into at all?”
Naidu further claimed that the CBI was not allowed to do its duty earlier under the United Provincial Alliance government. He added that the present National Democratic Alliance government had given a free hand to the agency.
Naidu’s comments come after Lalu Yadav alleged that the CBI raids were a “BJP conspiracy” to target him and his family repeatedly. Earlier on Friday, the CBI registered a case against the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief, his wife Rabri Devi and son and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav. The case is related to a alleged scam, which occurred during Lalu Yadav’s tenure as Union railway minister in 2006.
