Dozens of men, wearing stilettos, wedges and platform boots raced down a narrow street as the crowd wildly cheered on either side. The scene: the world’s largest LGBT pride celebration, in Madrid.
The High-Heel Race is the most well-known event at World Pride Madrid, and requires participants to wear heels at least four inches high. Many of the runners opted to stick the shoes to their feet with rolls of sticky tape before the race, which took place on June 29.
The competition is exclusively for men, many of whom wore wigs, skirts, and make-up to suit the spirit of the event. The celebration, which ended on Sunday, attracts millions of visitors from across the world each year.
