The air-conditioning system of a Delhi-bound Air India flight malfunctioned on Sunday, leaving many passengers breathless, PTI reported. Flight AI 880, which was carrying 168 passengers from Bagdogra to New Delhi, took off at 1.50 pm on Sunday afternoon.
The passengers discovered that the AC was not functioning as soon as they settled inside the aircraft. When they brought this to the notice of the Air India staff, they were told that the system would work just fine after the flight takes off. When that failed to happen, passengers protested.
Many people took to Twitter to complain about the air conditioning problem in the flight. Some even posted videos on the social media website, showing passengers huffing and puffing in the heat.
The Air India crew had also asked passengers to not take videos of the state of passengers on board the flight, as seen in the clip. “ You can’t stop us from making videos. People have been inconvenienced. We have paid Rs 30,000 for the ticket. Now you’re telling us to not take video clips,” one of the passengers in the flight can be heard saying in the video.
The passengers demanded action against Air India on landing in New Delhi. While the airline has yet to make an official statement on the matter, their spokesperson only said that the passengers had complained of faulty air conditioning system in the flight.
In another incident on Sunday, a Delhi-bound Air India flight was evacuated minutes before take-off from Bhubaneswar’s Biju Patnaik International Airport after a technical snag was detected, The Times of India reported. The pilots detected the snag in flight AI 078 when the aircraft was moving from apron to runway through the taxiway.
