South Africa captain Dane van Niekerk became the only bowler in cricket history to take four wickets in an international game without conceding a run as her side bowled out West Indies for a lowly 48 on their way to a massive 10-wicket win during a Women’s World Cup encounter on Sunday.
Only 31.4 overs bowled in the game as South Africa completed the chase in just 6.2 overs.
This is West Indies’ second lowest total in history and sixth lowest in the tournament. This was South Africa’s second successive win, while the third loss in the tournament for West Indies.
After winning the toss and choosing to field first, the South Africa bowlers ran through the West Indies batting order that saw only batter get her score into the double digits.
Marizanne Kapp and Shabnim Ismail reduced their opponents to 16/5 at one stage. Van Niekerk came into the attack and skittled out the rest of the line-up.
Brief scores
- West Indies 48 in 25.2 overs (Van Niekerk 4/0, Kapp 4/13) lost to South Africa 51/0 in 6.2 overs by 10 wickets.
