Just hours after the launch of the Goods and Services Tax in India, a video (above) has surfaced that shows the Travel Ticket Examiner (TTE) of Gujarat Queen Express asking passengers to pay an additional fare of Rs 20 each, in accordance with the new tax system. He was reportedly asked by government officials to do so. The tax rate on air-conditioned train ticket fares has been hiked from 4.5 per cent to 5 per cent.
But passengers argued, saying that the the charge should not be levied on tickets booked before July 1. They demanded to see an official circular. However, the TTE could only pacify them by assuring that they would all get receipts.
But this did not seem to satisfy the passengers as they are seen arguing regardless. The Financial Express reported that no action has been taken against the TTE so far.
