Sporadic showers continued to lash New Delhi and adjoining Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad on Friday, bringing respite from the heat and humidity. The national Capital has received 175.4 mm of rainfall in June, the highest for this month in the past 10 years, according to The Times of India.
Water-logging and traffic jams were reported from different parts of the city. Two trees were uprooted since Wednesday, according to Hindustan Times.
However, despite the occasional showers, the Meteorological Department said that monsoon has yet to arrive in Delhi. “Monsoon is expected to hit Delhi in the next 72 hours. Rains are occurring currently because of western disturbances,” Sathi Devi, a scientist with the department, told ANI.
The rains are expected to hit Delhi only by July 2 or later. “Monsoon has not moved over the past two days at least,” Hindustan Times reported, quoting an unidentified Met official. “We are expecting it to start moving from today [Friday] and cover Delhi-NCR by this weekend or early next week.”
