The Pakistan Army has violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control for the third consecutive day, the Indian Army claimed on Friday. Indian posts in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district were attacked with mortar shells and “small and automatic weapons’.

A Defence spokesperson said, “The Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing from small arms, automatic weapons and mortars from 0415 hours today on the Indian Army posts along the LoC in the Bhimbher Gali sector”.

The Army added that this was the 23rd ceasefire violation in June, and that at least four people have been killed in the violence. Similar incidents were reported from Poonch on Thursday and the Bhimbher Gali area on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Pakistan had summoned the Indian High Commissioner S Raghuram with its own claims of ceasefire violations. Islamabad claimed that Indian forces had fired in the Nikial sector, killing a civilian and leaving four others injured.

Cross-border tensions between the two countries show no signs of stopping as both armies continue to claim there have been infiltrations from either side. Bilateral ties between India and Pakistan have taken a downswing in since the Pathankot attack in Punjab in January 2016, and further weakened by disagreements on a number of key issues, including Kashmir, membership to the Nuclear Suppliers Group and the One Belt One Road initiative.
