Chamari Athapaththu created history at the ICC Women’s World Cup on Thursday when she hit an unbeaten 178 off 143 balls in the match against defending champions Australia, as Sri Lanka piled up 257/9.
Her innings was studded with 22 fours and six sixes and broke a host of records.
- The highest ever score by a Sri Lankan at the World Cup.
- Third highest score in Women’s ODI and second highest at the World Cup. This is also the highest score against Australia in ODIs.
- While Athapaththu top scored with 178, the next highest scorer was 24 – that’s how impressive her innings was.
