Indrani Mukerjea, who is in Mumbai’s Byculla Jail for murdering her daughter Sheena Bora, filed a complaint against prison officials on Thursday. In her complaint, the 44-year-old alleged that jail staff had beaten and injured her while she was protesting against the murder of fellow inmate Manjula Shetye along with 200 other prisoners, a police officer told PTI.
The former media executive filed the complaint at Nagpada Police Station late on Wednesday after a special Central Bureau of Investigation court permitted her to file an FIR in the case.
Moreover, a medical examination has confirmed that Mukerjea has injuries on her arms and legs, the kind that seem to have been caused by a blunt object or force, according to NDTV. The CBI court had also ordered Mukerjea to undergo a medical examination, to verify her claim that she was beaten up by prison officials, and that they had also cane-charged protesting inmates.
Five constables and a jailer of the Mumbai prison were booked on Tuesday for allegedly sexually assaulting and killing Shetye. The prisoner’s death on June 23 had triggered a protest, in which Mukerjea had participated. She was among the 200 women inmates who were later booked for inciting a prison riot.
