New Zealand and South Africa jumped to the top of the group standings of the World Cup after persistent downpour at Derby on Wednesday ruled out all possibilities of any play taking place at the County Ground.
Both teams had took their points tally to three from two games having won their respective opening encounters. The result meant that New Zealand captain Suzie Bates would have to wait till July 2 to play her 100th One-day International match. The White Ferns’ next assignment is against the mighty Australians.
Bates masterminded her side’s comprehensive win in their tournament opener against Sri Lanka, slamming a sparkling ton. South Africa had posted a thrilling three-wicket win against Pakistan in their opening encounter, and will now travel to Leicester to face 2013 runners-up West Indies.
