India is all set to hold two national football leagues from the forthcoming 2017-18 season. The franchise-based Indian Super League on Wednesday received recognition from the Asian Football Confederation, putting at par with the country’s other national tournament - I-League, Hindustan Times reported.
According to the report, the AIFF received a letter signed by its general secretary Dato Windsor John on Wednesday. It was, however, specified that the arrangement was a temporary solution and required the stakeholders to come up with a long-term plan, the report added.
The ISL will be held for five months from November onwards. The winners will get an AFC Cup qualifying slot even as the winners of the I-League play in the 2019 Asian Champions League qualifiers.
