India’s chief hockey coach Roelant Oltmans was ecstatic after his team thrashed Pakistan 7-1 in the Hockey World League Semi-Final in London on Sunday.
“We scored some great goals today and when we score the type of goals that we did today, that is what makes a coach happy,” said Oltmans, according to PTI. “I enjoyed the way we played, but as always I look for things to improve in our performances but scoring seven and conceding one is good.”
Harmanpreet Singh, Talwinder Singh and Akashdeep Singh scored a brace each with Pradeep Mor also netting one goal as India completely dominated proceedings against Pakistan and, in the process, top the table with three wins in three games. India will next play the Netherlands on Tuesday.
However, Oltmans stressed that there are still areas that the team needs to work on. “I thought Pakistan were the better team in the first quarter and they created more opportunities but after we scored the first goal, we started to play according to our plan,” said Oltmans.
The 7-1 win was India’s biggest over Pakistan, bettering the 7-4 effort against them in the 2003 Champions Trophy and 2010 Commonwealth Games.
