Ashutosh Mehta and Jayesh Rane, both players of defending I-League champions Aizawl FC have come together to start a crowdfunding campaign by the platform Ketto for victims of the flash floods and landslides that have ravaged the state of Mizoram in recent days.

The campaign message on Ketto reads, “Ashutoush and I have started a campaign for the people of Mizoram. In case if many of you all do not know, Mizoram is currently going through a phase of crisis. Since the past 3 days there has been constant rainfall in Mizoram and more than 10 people have been killed. More than 350 houses have been submereged leaving no space for people to sleep. More than 84 houses have been evacuated leaving families with no food, clothes and money.”

“Schools and colleges in many parts of Mizoram are shut, thousands of students were stuck in schools and buses as it was not possible for them to go home because of water logging. There is no supply of food, water and electricity, all food supplies that have been stored have been spoilt. Life has come to a halt in Mizoram and nearby cities. We as players of Aizwal FC Club have started a campaign for the people of Mizoram. Whatever funds that we raise will be used to buy Blankets, Food Supplies, Drinking Water etc.”

Several districts of Mizoram have been affected including Lunglei, Siaha, Lawngtlai, Serchhip and Champhai. As many as 350 houses have been submerged since Tuesday in different parts of the State in the flash floods, State Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Minister Zodintluanga had mentioned to PTI.

Sevety-four buildings were submerged after the waters of Khawthlangtuipui river flooded Tlabung town. Public Works Department officials said 84 families have been evacuated from the area.

Landslides and incessant rains have blocked several roads in Aizawl town, and power supply lines were snapped and telecommunication system was disrupted in the State capital.

At the time of writing, almost 8% of the five lakh rupees target had been met.
