While HS Prannoy scripted one of the finest wins in his career, stunning veteran Lee Chong Wei, Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu made second round exits from the Indonesia Superseries on Thursday.
Both the Olympic medallists lost in three-game affairs. Nehwal lost to Thailand’s Nitchaon Jindapol 15-21, 21-6, 16-21 in a 63-minute contest while fourth seed Sindhu suffered a 21-15 12-21 18-21 defeat against USA’s Zhang Beiwen in a 54-minute match despite being in cruise control at one stage.
Prannoy, ranked 25th in the world and who went into the match with a 0-2 head-to-head record, saw off three-time Olympic silver medallist Lee 21-10 21-18 in a 40-minute men’s singles contest at the Jakarta Convention Center.
