After ranking first in the seeding round, Deepika Kumari lost in the pre-quarterfinals to Chinese Taipei’s Lin Shih-Chia in the round of 16 at the World Cup Group Stage 2 being held in Antalya, Turkey.

The 22-year old archer from Ranchi lost in a shoot-off after the match was tied 5-5 all after five ends. The two competitors were tied in the shoot-off but Lin’s 8 was adjudged closer to the centre-circle than Kumari’s as the former World No 1 went out in the round of 16.

The day had begun well for Deepika as the No 1 seed had defeated Ukraine’s Veronika Marchenko 6-2. Monika Saren, the other Indian in the individual recurve fray was beaten 1-7 by Taipei’s Peng Chia-Mao.

Atanu, who had ranked 13 in the seeding round, lost to the Malaysian World No 94 Muhammad Akmal Nor Hasrin 2-6 in the round of 32. Dhaniram Basumatary progressed to the quarterfinals but bowed out 0-6, losing to eventual finalist Frenchman Jean-Charles Valladont.

Lopez’s 31-game winning streak at World Stages comes to an end

Colombian compound woman Sara Lopez had her international winning streak snapped after 31 matches by Dane Tanja Jensen, when she beat the reigning world number one 149-147 in the Antalya semifinals. Lopez had also won gold at the last five Archery World Cup stages.

The Indian women in the compound section, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Snehal Mandare and Divya Dhayal all crashed out in the second round of individual competition. Chinna Raju Srither, having beaten the higher-ranked Abhishek Verma in the second round, lost 143-147 to seventh seed Reo Wilde of the USA in the third round.
