“Edhiriye illai na, vaazhkai bore da,” (Life is boring without enemies), says Raghuvaran’s father to him in the teaser of Vellai Illa Pattadhari 2 (The Unemployed Graduate 2). The sequel to the 2014 action-drama, directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth and starring Dhanush as Raghuvaran, has a string of such one-liners about why adversaries are important.
The setting seems to be the same as the first film, which was written and directed by Velraj. The opening credits roll out over a civil engineer’s site blueprint. One of the action sequences is set at a construction site. Raghuvaran’s fist tightens, he looks coldly at his opponent and leaps forward to kick him in the chest.
The poster features Dhanush and Kajol – the movie marks her return to Tamil cinema after Minsara Kanavu (1997) – but she is missing from the teaser. Produced by S Thanu, V Creations and Wunderbar Films, the star cast includes Amala Paul, Saranya Ponvannan and Samuthirakani. Dhanush has written the sequel.
