Indian golfer Aditi Ashok got off to a solid start with a one-under 70 that put her at tied-28th in the first round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic golf being held in Jersey, USA. Aditi, playing her sixth LPGA event of the season, had four birdies against three bogeys in a fairly steady round.
The other Indian in the field, Sharmila Nicollet had a tough time in the afternoon as she managed a five-over 77 and will struggle to make the 36-hole cut.
Aditi, opening on the first, was steady and she got her first birdie on the second hole, but a bogey on eighth brought her to level par but she got a birdie on the next hole to go one-under. On the back nine, she birdied 12th and 17th, but gave away bogeys on 14th and the closing hole, the 18th.
Sharmila was hit hard by two double bogeys, one on the 11th and another on the ninth, her closing hole of the day. She had two birdies and three other bogeys, compounding a off-key round for Nicollet.
The 19-year old Bengalurean Aditi, who finished tied-62nd at last week’s Volvik Championship will look to card a better finish here after a bright opening round.
