Historian Ramachandra Guha has resigned from the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s Committee of Administrators, according to reports on Thursday. Guha has informed the Supreme Court, which appointed the COA in January this year, of his decision, reported PTI. Guha cited personal reasons for his resignation and the Supreme Court has asked him to file a plea on his resignation, which will be taken up in July.
Guha was part of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators led my former Controller Auditor General of India Vinod Rai, and included former India cricketer Diana Edulji and banker Vikram Limaye. The COA was formed to oversee the BCCI’s affairs after the Supreme Court sacked board president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke in January.
The formation of the COA was in line with the recommendations of the Justice Lodha panel, which was also appointed by the Supreme Court, in January 2015, to look into the functioning of the Indian board and suggest changes to its constitution. This was done in response to the 2013 spot-fixing and betting scandal. The COA’s task was to present a status report to the Court on the status of reforms in the BCCI and affiliated state associations.
