Record nine-time champion Rafael Nadal marched into the French Open third round after crushing Dutchman Robin Haase 6-1, 6-4, 6-3 on Wednesday.
The Spaniard is bidding to become the first man to win 10 titles at a single Grand Slam event and will play Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia for a place in the last 16.
“I was more or less under control during the whole match, so I’m very happy. Winning in straight sets is always good news,” said Nadal.
“I think I did a lot of things well this afternoon.”
Nadal finished his match with 33 winners and only 13 unforced errors. He has lost only twice at the French Open. He was beaten by Robin Soderling in the fourth round in 2009 and Djokovic in the 2015 quarter-finals.
He has been in fine form on clay off late, winning his 10th titles at Monte Carlo and Barcelona as well as his 30th Masters title in Madrid.
The Spaniard will face Nikoloz Basilashvili for a place in round four after the Georgian matched his best ever run at a Grand Slam.
