Vaiko had moved the bail application on Tuesday, which was granted bail by Additional City Civil Court Judge Purushothaman.
Vaiko had been charged with sedition and promoting enmity between different groups for a speech he had made in 2009, while releasing his book Naan Kutram Sattugiren (I am Making the Accusation).
The chargesheet in the case was filed in 2010. However, the trial is yet to commence.
