The Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex on Tuesday plunged 206 points to 30,365.25, while the National Stock Exchange also tumbled 52.10 points to 9386.15 on closing. The Indian Army’s strikes on Pakistan military posts in Nowshera and the explosion at a concert by US Singer Ariana Grande in Manchester late on Monday night were largely held responsible for the fall.
A higher than expected GST rate for consumer durables also hurt the market, Business Standard reported.
Maruti, M&M, Wipro, Tata Steel and HeroMoto Corp were the biggest gainers on the BSE Sensex while the Adani Ports, Cipla, Sun Pharma and GAIL were the top losers of the day.
IT stocks and auto stocks profited on Tuesday. Tech Mahindra was up 1% and Maruti Suzuki advanced 2.8%.
