At least three militants wearing suicide vests attacked the Radio Television Afghanistan’s premises in Jalalabad on Wednesday, police told Al Jazeera. Two of the men detonated their vests while security forces are on the look out for the third. The state media outlet’s office is in the vicinity of the provincial governor’s office.
The accused used AK-47s when security forces tried to stop them. “So far, six people have been wounded,” Al Jazeera’s John Hendren, reporting from Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, said. “The fight could go on for some time because this is in a central part of Jalalabad.” However, the local administration has yet to confirm the toll.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
Jalalabad is the capital of Nangarhar, a province on the border with Pakistan. The Islamic State group and Taliban is believed to have a strong presence in the region.
