The United States on Tuesday said that it would hold talks with North Korea only after they stopped all their nuclear and ballistic missile tests, AFP reported. The US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, said the Donald Trump administration was working on imposing new sanctions against the country.
“You either support North Korea or you support us, you are either with North Korea or not,” said Haley. “We are willing to talk, but not until we see a total stop of the nuclear process and of any test there.”
Her statements came ahead of a United Nations Security Council meeting on the matter. “Sanctions is something that we are looking at and we are going to continue to see where that takes us,” she added.
The UN Security Council meeting was held after Kim Jong-un regime’s latest and seventh missile test this year on Sunday. The Council condemned the missile test and said they were working on measure including sanctions against Pyongyang for its “highly destabilizing behavior”.
