Sunrisers Hyderabad moved one step closer to a playoff berth on Monday when they trounced table-toppers Mumbai Indians by seven wickets. It was a comprehensive victory for the defending champions, as they restricted the high-flying Mumbai batsmen to only 138 and then chased it down comfortably. Sunrisers overhauled the target with 10 balls to spare as opener Shikhar Dhawan (62) led the way with an unbeaten half-century.

Here are some stats that stood out from Monday’s match.

  • Sunrisers Hyderabad remained at fourth position on the points table, but now have 15 points, which is five more than closest rival Kings XI Punjab. One more win will take their tally to 17 and seal their spot in the Top Four.
  • 138 is Mumbai Indians’ lowest score this season. They had earlier scored 142 against Delhi Daredevils at Wankhede, but had gone on to win that match.
  • The spin twins from Afghanistan –  Rashid Khan (1/22) and Mohammed Nabi (1/13) – stifled the Mumbai batsmen with their impeccable line and length, conceding only 35 runs from their combined eight overs.
  • Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma scored 67 in his team’s total of 138. This is his highest score in this edition of the Indian Premier League and the highest against Sunrisers in 10 innings.
  • This was also Rohit’s 18th score of over 50 at the No 4 position in IPL, which is double that of the next player on the list – S Badrinath with nine.
  • Mumbai’s strike bowler Lasith Malinga has had an ordinary season by his standards. His economy this season is 9.23, which is his worst in any edition of the league. Before this, he had never crossed 7.40.
  • This was Shikhar Dhawan’s first Man of the Match award in Sunrisers colours. With his 62, the batsman also crossed 500 runs against Mumbai Indians in the IPL. He is second on the list with 532, behind only Suresh Raina who has 708.
