Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Travis Head ruefully summed up his team’s woes after they crashed to a four-wicket loss against Kolkata Knight Riders in Bengaluru on Sunday, reported IANS. It was RCB’s sixth loss on the bounce this tournament and their tenth in 13 matches this season
“Result-wise, this is probably the worst season. It is [a] disappointing result,” said the 23-year-old batsman from Australia and ascribed the poor run to a lack of momentum.
“Nothing has changed off the field since last season. We still enjoy as an unit. But it hasn’t gelled well on the field. It happens in T20 cricket. You can’t get back the momentum back once things go bad,” he said.
Against KKR on Sunday, Bangalore were blown away by the opening duo of Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn who put on an Indian Premier League record of 105 runs in the first six overs. Narine hit the joint-fastest IPL fifty but Lynn, returning from a shoulder injury, also impressed with a 21-ball 50.
Head showered praise on his Australian teammate and pointed out that he had a reputation for hitting the ball well.
“He [Lynn] has a reputation of being a big hitter in Big Bash League too. In IPL, he’s done the same. He is an unbelievable hitter of the ball,” he said. “They took advantage of the new ball.”
Head added that RCB had the game taken away from them in those first six overs.
“They just took advantage of the new hard ball. They had it in the first six. They put pressure back on us,” he pointed out.
