Taxi aggregator Uber launched its standalone food delivery app UberEATS in Mumbai on Tuesday. The app will initially be available in the Maharashtra Capital and will launch in at least five other cities by the end of the year.
UberEATS can currently be used by residents in Powai and parts of western Mumbai, from Lower Parel up to Andheri, NDTV Gadgets reported. A delivery free of Rs 15 will be charged per order, but there is no minimum order required. The app says it will deliver orders within 35 minutes, and has partnered with around 200 restaurants so far, including Chaayos, The Good Wife, and the Bohri Kitchen.
UberEATS was first launched in Los Angeles in August 2014. It then moved to five other countries, where it was launched in 78 cities. India is the seventh country in which it has been introduced, where it will take on other apps like Swiggy and Zomato. India’s other major cab aggregator Ola had ventured into food delivery, but closed shop within a year of its launch. Another delivery service, Runnr, has also shut down in Bengaluru.
