Roger Federer had a successful time, both on and off the court, as he played out the Match for Africa 4 at the Key Arena in Seattle on Saturday. Federer was joined by fellow tennis pro and American No 2 John Isner, innovator and philanthropist Bill Gates and musician Mike McCready for the exhibition match-up.

Federer first teamed up with Gates and faced off against Isner and McCready in the doubles match. The one-off set was quite entertaining with Gates and McCready proving to be handy partners for their more proficient teammates. Federer and Gates went on to win the set, and the game, 6-4.

In the singles match that followed between the Swiss and Isner, the former won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (7). The first set had Federer race away to a 5-2 lead after securing two breaks of serve, but Isner broke back while Federer was serving for the set in the eighth game. Trying to serve out the set for the second time, in the 10th game, Federer made no mistakes and gained a lead in the match. The second set tie-breaker could have gone either way, but an ace from Federer at 8-7 in the tie-break had him take the win.

That he went on to raise $2 million for his charity, the Roger Federer Foundation, which sponsors education for children across six nations in Africa, was the biggest win for Federer on the day. In his post-match chat with the gathered fans on the stands post-match, Federer acknowledged as much.

“All of a sudden you get in this position where you feel like you really lucky to be playing on the pro Tour and maybe you can actually do more and give back,” shared Federer. He also added, “And I thankfully have some great people in sports or in the world like, for instance, Bill Gates and Andrea Agassi who have done so well in philanthropy.”

Earlier this year, on April 10, Federer and Andy Murray took part in Match for Africa 3 in Zurich, Switzerland. Federer won that match as well, and went on to raise $1.4 million for his Foundation.
