India’s PV Sindhu bowed out of the quarter-final stage of the Badminton Asia Championships with a 21-15, 14-21, 22-24 loss against China’s He Bingjiao on Friday in Wuhan.
This ends India’s campaign in the tournament. In the men’s singles category, Ajay Jayaram lost in the second round against Hsu Jen Hao by 19-21, 10-21 scoreline.
Sindhu, though, was looking in solid touch through the tournament and reached the last-eight stage with a stylish straight-games win over Japan’s Aya Ohori by a 21-14, 21-15 margin.
The third game in the contest was a cliffhanger after both players pocketed one each. Binjiao took the lead but Sindhu caught up with her opponent, taking the game down to the wire.
The Indian saved two match points before the 20-year-old Chinese held her nerve to seal the tie.
