The Delhi government has decided to cancel holidays commemorating the birth and death anniversaries of public figures, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Friday. This comes two days after the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet cancelled around 15 public holidays.
Sisodia announced on Twitter that he had already spoken to the chief secretary on the matter. Adityanath’s government in Uttar Pradesh came in for praise from the Aam Aadmi Party leader, who added that states should always be ready to learn from each other.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath on Tuesday scrapped 15 public holidays that commemorate the birth and death anniversaries of public figures. However, government employees will be able to avail these holidays using their restricted holiday quota. Of the 42 public holidays the state currently has, 17 are meant to honour “great personalities”. The government will soon issue a revised holiday list.
