A Mumbai civil and sessions court on Friday convicted aspiring actor Preeti Jain and two others in a case in which she had allegedly conspired to kill filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar. Two others in the case were acquitted, ANI reported. Jain and one other accused have been sentenced to three years in prison while the third has received a two-year sentence, ANI reported.

However, the court has given Jain and the other accused four weeks to appeal against the verdict. They have also been granted bail.

In 2005, the model had allegedly paid an aide of Mumbai gangster Arun Gawli’s to kill Bhandarkar. This came after she had filed a rape case against the filmmaker in Versova, Mumbai, in July 2004. Jain had apparently asked for a refund from Gawli after the plan to kill Bhandarkar fell through, Hindustan Times reported. It was then that Gawli’s lawyer had approached the Mumbai Police.
