On Thursday, Royal Challengers Bangalore were beaten yet again as Gujarat Lions beat them by seven wickets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Opting to bowl first, Gujarat bowled out the famed batting lineup of RCB’s for 134.
However, as Gujarat began the chase, they lost Brendom McCulumm early on, but in came Aaron Finch and finished the game for Gujarat. The Australian smashed 72 off 39 balls to literally kill the game. In the end, Gujarat registered a fine win to move to sixth spot on the table. RCB are on seventh with five points in nine games. Here are some statistics you should not miss out on.
- Brendom McCullum played his 100th IPL game against Bangalore. He became the sixth overseas player to achieve the feat. He joined AB de Villiers (125), Kieron Pollard (114), David Warner (107), Dwayne Bravo (106) and Lasith Malinga (102).
- On Thursday, South Africa’s AB de Villiers was run out for the ninth time in his IPL career – the most by an overseas player. He surpassed Mahela Jayawardene’s tally of eight run outs.
- Aaron Finch required just 22 balls to reach his 50 against Bangalore. In the process, he became the fastest batsmen to hit a 50 for the Gujarat Lions. Dwayne Smith had taken 26 balls against Delhi Daredevils last year.
- Suresh Raina became the only batsmen in IPL history to score 300 runs or more in every season. He currently has the Orange Cap and will look to continue his good run in the remaining matches.
- Royal Challengers Bangalore have been bowled out three times in the tenth season already. All the other teams have a combined tally out of three. This was also the first time that Bangalore were bowled out in back-to-back innings.
- Gujarat Lions won the game with 37 balls to spare– second most by a side chasing down a target against Royal Challengers Bangalore in an IPL match. Previously, Rajasthan Royals had beaten them with 42 balls to spare at Abu Dhabi in 2014. What is more interesting is that Bangalore’s previous biggest defeat at Bengaluru came in 2008 when Rajasthan Royals beat them with 17 balls to spare.
