Hashim Amla’s stylish unbeaten 104 ultimately went in vain as Mumbai Indians gunned down a steep target of 199 easily and cruised to a eight-wicket win against Kings XI Punjab in Indore on Friday. On a manic night, Jos Buttler and Parthiv Patel went on an explosive start for Mumbai before Nitish Rana at No 3 kept the momentum going with a blinding knock.
Here are some of the big numbers from the match:
- Mumbai Indians recorded their sixth straight successful run chase. Kolkata Knight Riders hold the record with 10 successful run chases from 2014 to 2015.
- The target of 199 was Mumbai’s highest successful run chase, after they had chased down 190 to against Rajasthan Royals in 2014.
- In terms of run rate, Mumbai’s chase was the second-highest in the IPL in terms of run rate when it comes to chasing 175+ totals.
- Mumbai Indians scored 82/1 in the Powerplay, their highest score in the first six overs and seventh-highest overall in the IPL.
- Nitish Rana smashed seven sixes and zero boundaries in his unbeaten 62 off 34 balls for Mumbai. That’s the most number of sixes hit by a player without hitting a boundary in the IPL.
- Lasith Malinga was hammered for 58 runs in his four overs, his worst ever bowling performance in a Twenty20 match. It’s also only the third time he has gone for 50+ runs in Twenty20 matches. It was also the most runs conceded by a bowler in an IPL match.
- Hashim Amla’s unbeaten 104 became the third highest individual score in a losing cause in the IPL. Andrew Symonds’s unbeaten 117 and Wriddhiman Saha’s unbeaten 115 are the top two in that list.
